Granny Square

Do you all remember the Granny Square afghan. I think they started gaining popularity in the 70's. I think my niece made my son a red, white, and blue version in the early 80's , and my MIL made us a blue and Mauve version for our blue van. Mauve was so 80's ! Just put Granny Square Afghan in the Google Image search and you will see what I mean if you don't know  about them,
.

Well now I am  seeing a quilt version of this. Let me tell you there are some pretty ones out there. and of course one of the Flickr QAL groups (Old Red Barn Co.) that I follow has one this month.I think what started it was this quilt......

I never could get the hang of crochet, so .....Go ahead shoot me now, I have started yet another project. Yes that's right I said another project. I had to try just one block.....and it was like eating potato chips....You know what that means......

They really are pretty, kind of fussy to make. I have been able to pull all of the colored pieces from my 2 1/2 inch scrap box. That's good right? Use it up. Right like that will ever happen.....

.....I am liking them.

12 done so far....................

Fans and Owls

Finishing up the binding on this quilt. I started it in 2009. I think it was my first internet QAL and when finished I set it aside.......I decided to just go for it and try Bishops Fan quilting on it. My handyman made me a few circle templates that came in "handy"!

I even had a little sunshine the other day , so I could take a picture outside.

I just love those owl. Fussy cut the centers of the blocks and the cornerstones.

A closeup of the quilting.....

A few leftover blocks on the back.....

This time I incorporated the label into the back...

Yay, another hash mark on the UFO list!   :)  Jeri

Been Busy...

I have been absent from here lately.  Been busy w' life....work....and such. Today I made a couple of travel accessories for a friends birthday. She recently got a Kindle Fire and so I made her this to put it in to keep it from getting scratched in her bag. I lined it in flannel so it's nice and cozy in there. :)

Aren't those little birds cute?

and a little Snap Happy bag to put her Ipod, earbuds, charger,
or whatever into.

Such a cute little set.

I took them into work for her today, with a little coffee, spring flowers, and a cupcake.
I think she was pleased.
I just love to make things for people, and this little set
went together quickly.

Superbowl Sewing

Over the weekend I managed to finish a couple of blocks for my Feb. Bees....It was (of course) Superbowl Sunday yesterday and so I decided to have my own personal "sew in". I did take time to watch Madonna at half time, and caught a few of the commercials, and a little football.

I had two CandyLand Blocks to make for my Harmony quilt group.

These are the blocks.

and then for my other I am Queen for Feb in a new to me Bee called "Sew Bee Wonky"

I started with a 3 1/2 inch wonky star....

this was to show my group how to make the block.
I broke it down into 6 1/2 inch segments.

Here you can see the four blocks ready to be sewn into one.

To make this StarGazer block.

Kinda like this, and can't wait to see what comes in the mail.....
Happy Monday!      Jeri
