Care to Help?

A long time co worker of mine is fighting a battle with cancer and I have been trying to think of how I could help? Today I came across this request from a woman in South Carolina who has lost a mom to cancer. She is trying to collect 4000 four patch blocks by the end of February. Here is a link to the information about it.

Another Wonky Block

       I saw this tutorial....
http://www.sewjoycreations.com/2010/10/liberated-churn-dash-tutorial.html
and had to try this block.

It was fun. I downsized the original to make a 12 1/2 inch block. I should have made my original background piece larger, because I had to add a slim border to make it work. Oh well......it is a "wonky" block. I think I will send it along with my january Bee blocks for the ScrapBusters Bee.

It didn't make a dent in the Scrap Heap!

What can I say......

Three More...Out The Door!

Just finishing up the binding on a baby charity quilt for my Guild. I had two already finished and hope to get them and me to our January meeting tomorrow.

The first one is from some blue flannel I had leftover from another larger quilt.

I do like flannel for baby quilts. So warm.
Simple split Nine Patch.

My sister sent me these two tops to be quilted. This is the first one.

...... the back. Love those animals!

This is the second one. See the binding yet to be sewn.....

and another cute back.
I tried some clamshell quilting on this one.

guess I better get back to work!

Sew Much Fun / w Friends

Saturday I spent the day at a workshop put on by my quilt guild. It was led by one of our members, Julie. She taught us how to make a "Marys Unit" block from scraps and what can be done with such a simple block with a pile of them. First we traded our precut  piles with each other to really mix up the scraps and because sharing is so much fun with friends. Then we went to our machines and began sewing.......

Ladies.....start your engines!

A little of this.....

A little of that......

being productive.....

chatting along the way....

love the serious expression on our faces.....

After sewing the morning away it was time for some potluck lunch.
Always fun to taste what people bring.
We are pretty good cooks and the variety was deliscious.......

After lunch we went back to the drawing board.
These blocks go together quickly so my pile was more than adequate to "play" with.

add a little diet coke in there.....My kind of quilting!

Time to play....See the Mary's Block Unit?

Sooooooooooooooo many possibilities!

These are my blocks. Kind of a traditional setting like this.

or how about this way......

see the arrows in this setting?

Here I am playing with my blocks.

or what about that................

an on point option.....

Joyce says....I'm done!

What a great day. Another workshop extravaganza!

Thankyou so much Julie.......

First finish for 2012

Just put the final stitches in the binding for this quilt last night. I think I started it in 2009. It was one of my first Quilt Alongs and I was able to pull from my stash for it.It's kind of like an Eye Spy for me in that it has fabric from past projects, and bits of my favorite fabrics.  I think I had to buy a bit of yardage for the back, because this one is a generous twin size, and I started quilting it before the Gammill, so that took me a while too. I just love the nine patch block and love the scrappiness of this quilt. Yay for the first finish of 2012 and one more check off on the UFO list!   TO THE NINES

Don't those nine patches make you smile?

and a few scrappier ones thrown across the back....

These are the blocks I sent off for Decembers'/ Harmony Do Good Stitches blocks of the month.

I like this mix of colors a lot!

and these are for January /Scrapbusters Bee Blocks.

I have joined one more Bee for the year and I am the Queen Bee for the month of February. Meaning I need to get my act together and figure what I would like my fellow bees to sew for me. It has to be wonky...thus the name Sew Bee Wonky.
