Invisible Machine Applique

I have been asked to teach a "machine" applique class for our guild in September. Panic....People do you know how many different techniques there are out there? Too many .... I picked one today that is a combination of methods that I have used. These are my samples so far.

First a simple pattern. I agonized over this. Not necessary. Why do I always over think things? A bad habit I guess. In the end this is what I made for the first piece. Just traced my hand and added a heart inside. Whew that took entirely too long.

This is the result in fabric. Kind of fun to play with a few new stitches on the Bernina, a foot that has never been used, and invisible thread. I am kind of liking this technique. Keep it simple.

Next I need to find another simple pattern to do. Maybe something with flowers ....or maybe a Sunbonnet Sue. The possibilities are endless. Once again I need to make it simple and not over think.

And then I need to write up a list of what to bring to class. My fellow teacher who will be teaching hand/turned applique posted hers last week. Yikes! I need to get busy I guess. :> Later, JERI

Makeover

I have had fabric for this little project for quite some time now. My ironing board /IC was looking pretty sad.
Well used and stained. Plain and tacky.

See those ugly stains.....yuck

but not any more......oh ya baby that is much better.... Even my iron is sighing. Jeri

off to the post office.....

Out the door to get this sent off to Colorado to my daughter for a coworkers baby.

fresh and crinkley out of the dryer...:)

flannel on the back....

something girley.....

I tried a pantograph again on my machine. After one little set back I had it done in no time. Not sold yet on the pantographs, but I think it will just take some time getting use to them. So many cute designs for them. We will see. I think this is the seventh quilt that I have done on the new machine, so I just have to give it a little time. I sure am having fun trying new things. I need to play with rulers and circles. Maybe next....

Have a great Monday, Jeri

Friday Finish

Today I finished a baby quilt and gifts for a friend. The quilt has been done for a while, but I wanted to add a few other items to the gift. This is the quilt.

This line of fabric is a favorite.

This is the set of bibs and burpcloths I finished today.

This little girl fabric is so cute!

A little friend came by to see what I was doing outside.....I think Earl (Grey) approves!  :)

Monday , My Day to Quilt for others.

Today I spent the day sewing with my fellow guild members and a few others. This is a monthly event which I usually miss due to work, but today I found myself able to go. Here are a few pictures. We quilt at a retirement facility and sometimes the residents stop by to quilt with us or just to see what we are doing. One of our members is a resident as well. After we sew we usually have lunch there. Today was a nice day to quilt.....

Julie is working on a lullabye quilt. I had help with my handsewing......

Stitching.....Stitching.....

and a few more lullabye quilts in various stages.....

Machine quilting.....all those straight lines....

Bella was teaching a new friend to quilt.

This was Julie's Lullabye quilt top.

and I got all my blocks done and am now adding the lattice.
What a great way to spend my day off.................

Monday, My Day of Rest

After housework and laundry yesterday I am ready for a day of rest............Today I will spend quilting with fellow quilters for charity. I usually work on Mondays and so it has been a while since I have been able to attend this monthly happening. I have my machine packed and am ready to sew, sew, sew.....

I'll try to remember to take a few pictures today to let you see what we did .I leave you with a little inspiration. I love this color pallette.

Enjoy your day,  Jeri

Homeward Bound

Today I head back home after visiting both of my kids and DIL in California and Colorado. It has been most enjoyable, but it is time to go back home. I will miss the weather (90degrees in Denver ). Maybe we will get a little glimpse of the sun this week in Portland. One can hope...............

It was fun yesterday putting some color into the backyard.
A little reminder fence for the pug.

Gary likes the new rose.

and a little time to play....................

but now it's time for me to go home..........................................Jeri

Out and About

No I didn't go MIA. I have just been traveling, from San Diego to see my son and DIL, and then on to Denver to see my daughter. The weather has been so much better than in Portland. No rain and 70 in San Diego to 80-90 in Denver. It makes me feel like spring into summer. I'm not sure how to post pictures on my daughters computer, so they may have to wait until I get home. I will be home again on Monday, for now I will just be ejoying the sunshine, Gary (daughters pug) and being with my daughter.

The deck from our hotel overlooked the Marina.

One of the main reasons we went to San Diego was to hear our sons band play.
The New Kinetics
Our son is the drummer.

Kind of fun to hear them in this setting.

A little sightseeing during the day. Look at that sun!
